El Ayuntamiento de Vic (CiU, PSC y ERC) se comprometió ayer a dos cosas: a tener, para el próximo lunes, un dictamen jurídico sobre la polémica decisión de no empadronar a los sin papeles y a establecer un "diálogo" con los inmigrantes y el Gobierno central sobre la viabilidad legal de sus intenciones.
Este fue el acuerdo que el alcalde de Vic, Josep Maria Vila dAbadal (Unió), asumió en la reunión que a última hora de ayer mantuvo con las entidades de inmigrantes de la ciudad. Los convocados salieron relativamente contentos. "Ya sabíamos que hoy [por ayer] no tendríamos la retirada de la normativa, pero lo importante es que se han comprometido a hablar", afirmó el representante de UGT Francesc Poch.

Desde que el consistorio anunciara su intención de dejar fuera del padrón a los inmigrantes sin papeles, las entidades luchan para cambiar la decisión de los dirigentes municipales y los apoyos recibidos hasta el momento les dan esperanzas.
"Esperamos que retiren esta normativa. De hecho, que no la votaran en el anterior pleno nos hace pensar que se echarán atrás", afirma Carme Roqué, de Veus Diverses. Aunque para Margaret Mariadas, de la Asociación Social y Cultural de la India, aún es dificil entender el cambio de rumbo del equipo municipal: "Hasta ahora pensábamos que estaban con nosotros. Estamos tristes".
Miguel Sánchez, de CCOO, más que triste, está indignado y tiene clarísimo que la decisión de Vic carece de base legal. "Si no dan marcha atrás, nos movilizaremos", afirma.

Justificar la decisión
No importa que los sindicatos, entidades y juristas hayan puesto el grito en el cielo ante la decisión del Ayuntamiento. Ni siquiera que éste haya decidido establecer un diálogo con el Gobierno y los inmigrantes: el portavoz de CiU en el Congreso, Josep Antoni Duran i Lleida, defiende la decisión de su alcalde: "Si la nueva Ley de Extranjería expresa que para estar legalmente en España se necesita un pasaporte visado (...), ¿los ayuntamientos incumplen la ley al exigir lo mismo que pide la Ley de Extranjería?", se pregunta en su carta semanal.
"Es muy fácil criticar desde la lejanía, pero hay municipios saturados de inmigración", se responde a sí mismo el líder de Unió Democràtica, que justifica la decisión del alcalde de Vic con el paradójico argumento de que si no se toman medidas de este tipo, "el paso a la xenofobia está servido".
