El ciclista español Alberto Contador, campeón del Tour de Francia, mostró una buena forma deportiva a pesar de estar fuera de temporada y ganó hoy con más de 100 metros de ventaja la prueba de fondo del Criterium Ciclista de Cancún, México.
Contador marcó 57:41 minutos en el recorrido de 42 kilómetros en un circuito de 3.000 metros y aventajó con comodidad a sus compatriotas Alejandro Valverde, ganador de la Vuelta a España, y Óscar Freire, tricampeón del mundo, quienes lo escoltaron.
El concurso, con 62 corredores, transcurrió con tres metas volantes: la primera, en el kilómetro ocho ganada por Valverde delante de Contador; la segunda, en el 11 con Freire primero seguido del danés Michael Rasmunsen y Contador, y la tercera liderada por Contador.
Aunque había insinuado que llegaba a Cancún relajado y sin muchas aspiraciones, Contador se tomó en serio la fiesta deportiva y también ganó la contrarreloj por equipos mixtos y fue tercero en la individual.
En la primera hizo equipo con las mexicanas Giussepina Grassi, Nancy Contreras, Daniela Gaxiola y Erika Alcais, y sacaron 10 segundos de ventaja a la formación de Valverde con las mexicanas Verónica Leal, Lorenza Morfin, Ingrid Drexler y Nancy Arreola.
Valverde se anotó su victoria del día en la contrarreloj individual, delante de Rubén Plaza y de Contador, situados segundo y tercero en ese orden.
"El cariño de la gente ha sido increíble, estamos maravillados a pesar de que la carrera ha sido dura; he sufrido en algunos momentos porque tanto Freire como Valverde estaban muy fuertes, estuve ahí a su ritmo, pero al final pude ganar", dijo Contador.
