Algunos responsables de Goldman Sachs Group discutieron la posibilidad de ganar "mucho dinero" en 2007 en medio de la crisis crediticia cuando las hipotecas de alto riesgo empezaban a derrumbarse, según correos electrónicos divulgados el sábado por un comité del Senado estadounidense.
"Por supuesto que no eludimos el problema de las hipotecas. Perdimos dinero, y después ganamos más de lo que perdimos por causa de las posiciones cortas", dijo Lloyd Blankfein, consejero delegado de Goldman Sachs, en un correo electrónico de noviembre de 2007.
"Parece que vamos a ganar bastante dinero", dijo el ejecutivo de Goldman Sachs Donald Mullen, en una serie separada de correos desde octubre de 2007 sobre el rendimiento de las posiciones de segunda hipoteca en una obligación de deuda colateralizada, también llamada CDO.
La subcomisión permanente de Investigaciones del Senado realizará una audiencia el martes con Blankfein y otros ejecutivos sobre el papel que tuvo Goldman Sachs en la crisis financiera.
La firma ha sido demandada por la Comisión de Valores (SEC, por sus siglas en inglés) por sus operaciones en CDO.
