El cuerpo de Michael Jackson será llevado al rancho de Neverland el próximo jueves por la mañana, informaron hoy medios estadounidenses. Según el canal de televisión CNN, un funeral privado tendrá lugar el próximo domingo, después de un acto abierto al público previsto para este viernes.
Además, el portal de internet TMZ.com, que fue el primero en informar del paro cardiaco del artista y de su muerte, agrega que una caravana de 30 automóviles partirá desde Los Ángeles a las 10.00 hora local, en dirección al rancho, situado cerca de Los Olivos, a unas dos horas y media al norte de la urbe angelina.
La publicación sostiene que las autoridades discuten actualmente el contingente policial y las medidas de seguridad alrededor del trayecto. Neverland es un rancho de 1.300 hectáreas al que Jackson decidió llamar así en referencia al nombre de la famosa isla El País de Nunca Jamás, del libro infantil Peter Pan, donde los niños nunca crecían.
Este recinto, que estuvo a punto de ser subastado en 2008 por la morosidad de su dueño, cuenta con un edificio principal de estilo europeo y una casa de invitados, un pequeño parque de atracciones, un zoológico, así como estatuas de personajes de Peter Pan.
La compañía de inversiones Colony Capital, con la que trabaja el ex representante y amigo de Jackson, el senegalés Tohme Tohme, entró en escena por aquel entonces y se hizo cargo de la hipoteca pendiente de Neverland, estimada en 24,5 millones de dólares (17,4 millones de euros).
