El diseñador francés Yves Saint-Laurent, fundador de la marca de ropa del mismo nombre, falleció esta noche en París, a los 71 años, informó la fundación Pierre Bergé-Yves Saint Laurent.
Fuentes de la fundación señalaron que la muerte del modisto, creador de los originales vestidos trapecio, el esmoquin de mujeres y la "sahariana", se produjo a las 23.10 hora local (21.10 GMT).
Al dar a conocer la noticia, su amigo y socio en los negocios Pierre Bergé no facilitó los detalles de la muerte, aunque indicó que falleció tras una larga enfermedad.
Yves Sint Laurent estaba considerado como uno de los últimos supervivientes de una generación excepcional de modistos que hizo de París la capital mundial de la moda, incluidos los también franceses Christian Dior y Coco Chanel.
Bergé aseguró que "Coco Chanel trajo a las mujeres la libertad y él les dio el poder", y añadió que llegó más allá del terreno de la estética y se introdujo en los aspectos sociales.
"Fue algo más que un provocador. Fue un verdadero libertario que transformó a la mujer" dijo Bergé.
Por su parte, la modista Chantel Tomas alabó el genio de Yves Saint Laurent, de quien subrayó que renovó el vestuario de la mujer y puso el pantalón entre la ropa femenino.
Chantel Tomas aseguró que "fue un gran señor", que se inspiró para sus sorprendentes colecciones en los grandes pintores.
Yves Saint-Laurent nació el 1 de agosto de 1936 en Orán (Argelia) en el seno de una familia acomodada y comenzó su carrera en el diseño a los 17 años, al ganar el primer premio de un concurso de diseño con el dibujo de un traje de cóctel negro.
