Alrededor de 275.000 ciudadanos de la UE residentes en España podrán votar en las elecciones europeas del próximo 7 de junio, más del doble de los que lo hicieron en los últimos comicios celebrados en 2004, según datos del Instituto Nacional de Estadística (INE).
El censo electoral a fecha 1 de febrero cifra en 275.732 los ciudadanos comunitarios que han expresado su intención de votar en España en los comicios europeos, aunque los que aún no se han inscrito tienen de plazo hasta el próximo día 27 para hacerlo.
En las elecciones de 2004, aparecían censados en España 123.642 residentes de países de la UE, y en los de 1999, la cifra era de 55.098.
El incremento de votantes en las dos últimas citas electorales se justifica en la entrada en el espacio europeo de nuevos socios.
Este año se incorporan al censo los ciudadanos de Rumanía -46.117- y Bulgaria -8.251-, países que accedieron a la UE el 1 de enero de 2007.
Por países, la colonia más numerosa con intención de voto es la del Reino Unido, con 75.623 censados, seguida de la rumana y la alemana (33.632).
Por detrás, se sitúan los italianos (29.502), los franceses (25.056), los portugueses (15.965) y los holandeses (11.056), según los datos del INE.
Los países con menos electores censados son Estonia (108), Malta (30) y Chipre (18).
Por provincias, Alicante es, con diferencia, donde residen más ciudadanos comunitarios con opción a votar el 7 de junio, con un total de 52.426.
Le siguen Madrid (30.938), Málaga (28.124); Barcelona (26.101), Baleares (15.313), Valencia (12.333), Tenerife (11.267), Almería (9.129), Girona (8.021), Castellón (7.752), Las Palmas (7.075), Murcia (6.736) y Tarragona (5.837).
Los que menos censados tienen son Ceuta (39), Melilla (88), Palencia (238), Ávila (337), Zamora (412) y Soria (540).
Para participar en las elecciones al Parlamento Europeo, es necesario estar empadronado y haber manifestado la voluntad de votar en España, según el INE.
