El entorno de David Beckham negó hoy que el futbolista inglés, de 34 años, haya decidido retirarse después del Mundial en Sudáfrica con el objetivo de regresar al Reino Unido y poder pasar más tiempo con su mujer y sus hijos.
La información fue publicada hoy por el diario sensacionalista "The Sun", que citaba a un amigo no identificado del futbolista como fuente para afirmar que Beckham dejará de ser profesional en julio.
"El Mundial será su canto del cisne (...). Ha tomado ya la decisión. Se dejará el alma por su país en la escena internacional por última vez. Luego quiere hacer de padre", dice este amigo.
Según esta versión, "David y (su esposa) Victoria se llevan mejor que nunca y después de unas maravillosas Navidades familiares se han dado cuenta de lo que realmente les importa. Ambos han decidido que quieren recuperar su familia en el Reino Unido".
Pero un portavoz oficial del futbolista afirmó en las últimas horas "que no se ha tomado una decisión" en este sentido.
También una fuente cercana al jugador, actualmente cedido en el Milan por el LA Galaxy, negó a la agencia británica de noticias PA que el ex jugador del Manchester United y del Real Madrid haya decidido colgar las botas tras la cita en Sudáfrica.
"Es una tontería", dijo este fuente.
Beckham tiene todavía contrato con el equipo estadounidense para dos años más y recientemente el vicepresidente del Milan anticipó que el equipo italiano le ofrecerá la posibilidad de volver de nuevo el año que viene para disputar la segunda mitad de la temporada.
