Es un partido intrascendente, aunque, paradojas del destino, España puede hacer historia si lo gana. La selección cierra esta noche su participación en el grupo 5 de clasificación para el Mundial 2010 con la posibilidad de firmar un pleno de victorias histórico. Para ello tendrá que vencer a Bosnia. España nunca consiguió ganar todos los partidos de su grupo clasificatorio para una gran cita futbolística y, hasta la fecha, solamente tres selecciones (Brasil, en 1970; Alemania, en 1982, y la actual Holanda) lo han conseguido. Aun así, si la roja vence, se convertirá en la selección con más partidos ganados en una fase previa, diez, por seis de Brasil, y ocho de Alemania y Holanda.
Pero al margen de una victoria que sume un récord más a su palmarés, España no se juega nada. Tal vez el riesgo de perder a algún otro jugador por lesión. De los 24 futbolistas que Del Bosque convocó hace ocho días, cinco han abandonado ya la selección: Marchena, Xavi y Güiza, por lesión; Cesc, por la enfermedad de su abuelo, y Puyol, que cumplirá su sanción por acumulación de tarjetas ante Bosnia. Además, Torres e Iniesta sufren molestias y desde sus clubes, Liverpool y Barcelona, están haciendo una llamada a la prudencia.
Con España clasificada desde hace semanas para Suráfrica, Del Bosque evitará pisar más charcos. El seleccionador mirará para otro lado y no arriesgará con la presencia de Torres o Iniesta en el once. Jugará con los menos habituales.
