El suizo Michael Albasini, del equipo Columbia), ha sido el vencedor de la cuarta etapa de la Vuelta al País Vasco, disputada entre la localidad guipuzcoana de Eibar y la vizcaína de Güenes, de 161 kilómetros; mientras que el español Alberto Contador (Astana) sigue como líder.
Tras Albasini, que logra su primera victoria de la temporada, cruzaron la línea de meta el belga Jurgen van den Broeck (Silence Lotto) y el estadounidense Christian van de Velde (Garmin); mientras que el pelotón principal del líder Contador lo hacía a casi minuto y medio.
Albasini remató la escapada del día en la que también estuvieron el irlandés Philip Deignan (Cervélo), estadounidense Christian Van de Velde (Garmin) y el belga Jurgen van den Broeck (Silence Lotto).
Mañana se disputará la quinta etapa entre Güenes y Zalla, de 169 kilómetros.
