El presidente francés, Nicolas Sarkozy, propuso hoy a su homólogo pakistaní, Asif Ali Zardari, ayuda en materia de tecnología nuclear civil, según declaró a la prensa gala el ministro de exteriores de Pakistán, Shah Mehmud Qureshi.
Fuentes del Elíseo precisaron a Efe que la ayuda que Francia prestará a Pakistán se limitará a la "seguridad nuclear" en el marco de los acuerdos internacionales "para que el programa nuclear pakistaní se desarrolle en las mejores condiciones de seguridad".
La propuesta, calificada por Qureshi como un "desarrollo significativo", ha llevado a los dos países a un "acuerdo de principios", comunicó el responsable de la diplomacia paquistaní, según recoge la emisora "France Info".
Al término de la reunión en el Palacio del Elíseo, entre Sarkozy y Zardari, el presidente pakistaní adelantó que Francia contribuirá con 12 millones de euros para ayudar a los más de 900.000 desplazados en el norte de Pakistán.
Pakistán, país que posee la bomba atómica, mantiene una carrera de armamento con la India, vecino rival que también tiene capacidad militar nuclear.
Ninguno de los dos países han firmado el Tratado de no Proliferación Nuclear.
