Al menos 100 supuestos talibanes han muerto, entre ellos cinco destacados cabecillas, en una ofensiva lanzada por las fuerzas de seguridad afganas en la provincia de Farah, en el oeste del país, informó hoy una fuente policial.
La operación, que todavía permanece abierta, se inició el pasado jueves y está dirigida por una fuerza conjunta de la Policía y el Ejército de Afganistán, según el portavoz del Ministerio del Interior Zemarai Bashary.
Durante los combates, en los que dos agentes perdieron la vida, las fuerzas de seguridad rodearon a los insurgentes la ciudad de Bakwa y se hicieron con el control de ese municipio que había sido tomado por los insurgentes ocho meses atrás.
Los combates entre las fuerzas internacionales y afganas y la insurgencia talibán son constantes, en especial en el tercio meridional de Afganistán, donde los talibanes tienen mayor presencia.
