Un comando de las fuerzas especiales de seguridad yemení liberó hoy un petrolero con bandera de Yemen secuestrado ayer, en una operación en la que han muerto tres piratas y otros once han sido detenidos, informaron fuentes militares y policiales.
El barco, identificado con el nombre de Qana y con capacidad para transportar 3.000 toneladas de petróleo se dirigía desde el puerto de Nishtawn, en la costa del mar Arábigo, al de Adén, ambos en el sur del Yemen.
En la embarcación, que viajaba sin carga, se encontraban 23 marineros cuando fue secuestrada ayer por piratas somalíes, a 10 millas marítimas de la costa yemení, según las fuentes.
El Ministerio de Defensa yemení afirmó en la tarde de ayer que tropas navales yemeníes habían liberado el barco después de un enfrentamiento de varias horas, en el que habían muerto dos piratas, mientras que otros dos habían resultado heridos, además de dos soldados yemeníes.
Sin embargo, en una segunda nota emitida poco después la misma institución desmintió dicha información y dijo que sus fuerzas aún tenían cercado el petrolero "Quena", que estaba controlado por nueve piratas somalíes desde hacía varias horas.
