El Gobierno iraquí ha prohibido hoy la circulación de vehículos en Bagdad para garantizar la seguridad de los cientos de miles de chiíes que celebran en la capital una de las fiestas más importantes de su calendario religioso.
La prohibición, que entró en vigor a las 05.00 hora local (01.00 GMT) y se prolongará durante 24 horas, se ha adoptado un día después de los brutales atentados que costaron la vida al menos a 26 personas en la ciudad.
Miles de soldados y miembros de las fuerzas de seguridad custodian hoy las rutas hacia el mausoleo de Musa al Kazem, en el barrio de Kazimiya (norte de Bagdad), a donde se dirigen los fieles chiíes para conmemorar la muerte del séptimo imán del chiísmo.
El portavoz del plan de seguridad para Bagdad, general Qasem Ata, ha explicado que miembros de al menos seis batallones del Ejército y la Policía participan en este operativo.
El toque de queda para vehículos se ha decretado un día después de que tres mujeres suicida activaran las cargas que llevaban adosadas a su cuerpo al paso de peregrinos chiíes por el distrito de Karrada, en Bagdad, matando al menos a 26 personas.
