Los jugadores iberoamericanos fueron los protagonistas de algunos de los goles más valiosos de la jornada 31 de la Liga española, entre los que figura el argentino Leo Messi, cuyo tanto le dio el triunfo al líder Barcelona en el campo del Getafe (0-1).
También valió su peso en oro el gol del brasileño del Real Madrid Marcelo al Recreativo (0-1), con lo que mantiene su desventaja de seis puntos con respecto al Barcelona, así como los del argentino Ever Banega y el uruguayo Diego Forlán en el triunfo del Atlético de Madrid sobre el Numancia (3-0).
El uruguayo Iván Alonso consiguió el tanto vital para el Espanyol sobre el Racing (1-0), mientras que el venezolano Juan Arango marcó de soberbia falta directa para que el Mallorca se llevara un punto de su visita a Málaga (1-1).
La lucha por el liderato del Trofeo EFE se mantiene entre el argentino del Real Madrid Gonzalo Higuaín (6,88 de puntuación media por partido) y el mencionado Messi (6,82), seguidos de Forlán (6,53) y el brasileño del Barcelona Dani Alves (6,24).
El vencedor del Trofeo EFE, con el fin de que la clasificación final sea más equitativa, se establece según la media entre la puntuación total otorgada al jugador y el número de partidos que haya disputado, con un mínimo de 25 encuentros (dos tercios del campeonato).
