Las principales ciudades españolas se unirán el sábado a "La Hora del Planeta", una iniciativa mundial de la organización ecologista WWF que tratará de concienciar contra el cambio climático apagando las luces durante las 20:30 y las 21:30.
Hasta 26 ciudades, entre ellas Madrid, Bilbao, Barcelona, Granada, Segovia y Zaragoza, apagarán sus edificios más emblemáticos para recordar la importancia que suponen pequeños cambios en la vida diaria contra el calentamiento global, como el uso de luces fluorescentes o reducir el consumo energético.
La Puerta de Alcalá, el Palacio Real y el Congreso de los Diputados en Madrid, la Sagrada Familia y la Torre Agbar en Barcelona, el museo Guggenheim de Bilbao o la Giralda y la Torre del Oro en Sevilla son algunos de los monumentos españoles que se han sumado a la celebración.
WWF aspira a que sea una evento de participación masiva que envíe un mensaje a los líderes mundiales que en diciembre se reunirán en Copenhague para firmar un tratado sobre cambio climático que sustituya al Protocolo de Kioto.
Hasta 2.450 ciudades de 82 países se han comprometido con "La Hora del Planeta", que se iniciará en Nueva Zelanda y culminará en la costa oeste de Estados Unidos tras pasar por 25 husos horarios.
