Israel dejó este martes en libertad al presidente del parlamento de la Autoridad Nacional Palestina (ANP), el islamista Aziz Dweik, tras cumplir 36 meses en prisión, informaron fuentes del Servicio de Prisiones.
La familia del diputado confirmó desde Gaza su liberación y añadió que Dweik, de 60 años y dirigente del movimiento islamista Hamás, debió depositar 5.000 shekels (unos 900 euros/1.250 dólares), como fianza.
Dweik se encontraba en la cárcel de máxima seguridad de Hadarim, a unos 30 kilómetros al norte de Tel Aviv, y fue trasladado a primera hora de la tarde por el Servicio de Prisiones de Israel (SIP) hasta el paso de Shaar Efraim, cerca de la ciudad cisjordana de Tulkarem.
En el paso fronterizo le esperaban su abogado, Fadi al Qawasmi, y su familia.
El presidente del poder legislativo de la ANP fue arrestado por Israel en 2006, poco después de la captura del soldado Guilad Shalit el 25 de junio de ese año por tres grupos palestinos de Gaza. Entre los grupos captores figura Hamás.
Israel lo condenó entonces a 36 meses de prisión, pero la Fiscalía Militar apeló a principios de mes para que se le prolongara la condena a 42. La semana pasada un juez militar rechazó el recurso.
Israel esperaba utilizar a Dweik, y a otros alrededor de 35 diputados islamistas que detuvo el mismo año, como carta de canje para liberar a Shalit, en unas negociaciones en las que media Egipto pero que no terminan de fraguar.
