Italia no tiene dinero de sobra como para realizar una rebaja tributaria, dijo el miércoles el primer ministro Silvio Berlusconi, al insistir en que fue malinterpretado en unos comentarios previos donde sugirió que estaba trabajando en un plan para reducir el impuesto a la renta.
"En esta situación, está fuera de discusión que podamos hablar de rebajas de impuestos", afirmó Berlusconi a periodistas tras una reunión de gabinete.
Italia está saliendo lentamente de su peor recesión desde la posguerra, pero su déficit fiscal es de más del 5 por ciento del Producto Interior Bruto (PIB) y su deuda pública ha subido a cerca del 115 por ciento del PIB.
En una entrevista en un diario publicada el sábado, Berlusconi dijo que estaba preparando una reforma tributaria junto al ministro de Economía, Giulio Tremonti, y apuntó que finalmente aplicará sólo dos tasas de impuesto a la renta, de un 23 y de un 33 por ciento, en vez del actual rango que va desde el 23 hasta el 43 por ciento.
Berlusconi prometió primeramente esta costosa reforma cuando entró a la política en 1994, pero pese a que frecuentemente reitera su promesa de rebajar los impuestos, sus gobiernos nunca han podido reducir significativamente la carga tributaria total como proporción del PIB.
El miércoles, Berlusconi negó que haya hablado recientemente de reducir el nivel de las tasas tributarias.
