Joan Llaneras, doble campeón olímpico en pista, señaló sin lugar a dudas que su mejor recuerdo en la hora de la retirada es el Mundial que obtuvo en su tierra, en Palma de Mallorca, en el año 2007, porque competía en casa y aún estaba reciente el accidente que le costó la vida a su compañero y amigo Isaac Gálvez.
"Nunca podré olvidar la imagen de todo el publico del velódromo en pie, aplaudiendo y llorando. Es sin duda mi mejor recuerdo ahora que me despido de la actividad profesional", dijo Llaneras en Barcelona, donde acudió a la entrega de los Premios Deporte con Corazón.
El campeón balear explicó que se retira de la mejor forma posible, y de manera irrevocable, ya que en Atenas 2004 se marcó como tope los Juegos de Pekín, donde alcanzo su segundo oro en puntuación.
"Hay muchos motivos para la retirada. Por una parte ya logré lo que quería. Tengo 39 años y tengo que pensar en la familia. Se dan todas las circunstancias, por lo que no voy a regresar nunca, como ha hecho Armstrong", dijo.
Llaneras se dedicará a formar campeones como responsable del velódromo Arena de palma y su sueño inmediato es crear un centro de alto rendimiento para el ciclismo.
