El presidente ruso, Dmitri Medvédev, defendió hoy en la India que la diplomacia es "una actividad sigilosa" y advirtió de que la filtración de cables diplomáticos por parte de Wikileaks podría "dañar" las relaciones entre los países.
"Tiene aspectos positivos y negativos, quizás no todo lo que los diplomáticos discuten debería salir a la luz pública tan rápidamente. Al final, está destinado a ser de dominio público en cien o doscientos años. Pero puede dañar las relaciones entre países", subrayó el mandatario ruso, según las agencias indias.
Medvédev, quien hizo estas declaraciones durante una interacción con estudiantes en el Instituto de Tecnología de la India (ITT), en la ciudad occidental de Bombay, aseguró que en el caso de Rusia las revelaciones de Wikileaks no tendrán ningún efecto.
"No nos preocupa, pero a veces hay gente que utiliza palabras duras y otros se sienten afectados por ello", zanjó.
En algunos cables filtrados recientemente, diplomáticos de EEUU describieron a Rusia como "un virtual estado mafioso" donde el primer ministro, Vladimir Putin, "gobierna entre bastidores" por encima del presidente Medvédev, sobre el que se llega a afirmar que no toma "ninguna decisión importante" sin preguntar a Putin.
Tras un paseo por el majestuoso mausoleo del Taj Mahal en Agra (norte) y una estancia relámpago en Bombay, Medvédev puso fin hoy a una visita de tres días a la India.
Ayer, Rusia y el gigante asiático firmaron un total de 29 acuerdos, once de ellos intergubernamentales, destinados a explorar nuevas vías de negocio en sectores como los hidrocarburos o el farmacéutico, para apuntalar un comercio bilateral que superó hace tiempo la cooperación puramente militar.
