El presidente de Rusia, Dmitri Medvédev, canceló la reunión bilateral que tenía previsto celebrar hoy con su homólogo iraní, Mahmud Ahmadineyad, durante la cumbre de la Organización de Cooperación de Shanghai (OCS).
Medvédev tiene "una agenda muy apretada" debido al foro de esa organización regional, que también incluya a China y a cuatro países centroasiáticos, y la primera cumbre formal del grupo BRIC, formado por Brasil, Rusia, India y China, explicó la delegación rusa.
Ahmadineyad asiste a la cumbre de la OCS que se celebra en la ciudad rusa de Yekaterimburgo, en los Urales, en calidad de observador, junto a los presidentes de Afganistán y de Pakistán, el primer ministro de la India y un enviado mongol.
El líder iraní, quien busca el ingreso formal de su país en la OCS, tenía previsto llegar el lunes a Yekaterimburgo, pero pospuso la visita por un día "por razones personales", según fuentes diplomáticas rusas.
Desde la reelección el sábado de Ahmadineyad como presidente de esa república islámica, Teherán es escenario de violentas protestas opositoras para denuncian fraude electoral y que concluyeron anoche con la muerte de siete personas.
La Cancillería rusa no ha hecho declaraciones oficiales sobre las elecciones en Irán, y solo el viceministro de Exteriores, Serguéi Riabkov, afirmó hoy que estos comicios son "un asunto interno del pueblo iraní".
"Aplaudimos la celebración de estas elecciones y damos la bienvenida en la tierra rusa al reelegido presidente de Irán", dijo Riabkov durante una rueda de prensa en Yekaterimburgo.
La visita de Ahmadineyad a Yekaterimburgo "refleja las relaciones de buena vecindad y tradicionalmente amistosas" entre Rusia e Irán, indicó el diplomático, según la agencia RIA-Nóvosti.
"Resulta simbólico que su primera visita al exterior después de su reelección Ahmadineyad la haga a Rusia", agregó el viceministro ruso.
