La NASA inicia hoy la cuenta regresiva para el lanzamiento del transbordador "Endeavour" en una misión de 16 días a la Estación Espacial Internacional (EEI) el próximo sábado.
"No hay problemas de qué informar", aseguró hace unas horas el director de pruebas de la agencia espacial estadounidense, Charlie Blackwell-Thompson, al culminar una serie de preparativos para la misión, una de las más prolongadas de los transbordadores espaciales al orbitador.
El "Endeavour" partirá el sábado a las 13.17 GMT para entregar e instalar los últimos módulos del laboratorio científico "Kibo" durante cinco caminatas espaciales, llevar nuevos equipos al complejo y relevar a uno de los ocupantes de la EEI.
La tripulación del "Endeavour" estará bajo el mando de Mark Polansky, quien tendrá como piloto al astronauta Doug Hurley y contará con los astronautas especialistas Tim Kopra, Tom Marshburn, Dave Wolf Christopher Cassidy y Julie Payette, de la Agencia Espacial de Canadá.
Kopra sustituirá en la EEI al ingeniero japonés Kohichi Wakata, quien volverá a la Tierra como tripulante del "Endeavour" tras una permanencia de cuatro meses en el orbitador.
