El primer ministro de Israel, Benjamín Netanyahu, tiene previsto viajar a Washington a finales del próximo mes de mayo para entrevistarse con el presidente de EEUU, Barack Obama, informó hoy la radio pública israelí.
La emisora, que citó a destacadas fuentes de la Oficina del Primer Ministro israelí, precisó que la entrevista, que se producirá en la Casa Blanca, responde a una invitación personal del presidente norteamericano a Netanyahu, cuyo gobierno entró en funciones el pasado 31 de marzo.
La fecha de la visita del dirigente israelí a EEUU, aún por concretar, aparentemente será después del viaje del Papa Benedicto XVI tiene previsto efectuar a Tierra Santa entre el 8 y el 15 de mayo.
El rey de Jordania, Abdalá II y el presidente de la Autoridad Nacional Palestina (ANP), Mahmud Abás, tienen asimismo previsto viajar próximamente a la capital de EEUU para sendos encuentros con Obama.
El enviado estadounidense para Oriente Medio, George Mitchell, se encuentra hoy en la zona, donde tiene fijada una apretada agenda de entrevistas con los máximos dirigentes israelíes.
Mitchell trata de tomar el pulso a cuál será la política del nuevo gobierno israelí e impulsar un proceso de paz que conduzca a la creación de un estado palestino.
