El número de estudiantes de español en Islandia se ha triplicado en solamente 10 años a pesar de que en algunos institutos aún no se imparte como tercer idioma, ha asegurado hoy la hispanista Margrét Jónsdóttir, editora del primer Diccionario Español-Islandés presentado hoy en Salamanca.
Jónsdóttir, en declaraciones a Efe, ha destacado que el hispanismo es una "ciencia nueva" en Islandia, dado que los primeros doctores en esta lengua son del año 2000, si bien el interés por el español está en "auge" como lo prueba el hecho de nuestro país "es el más visitado por los islandeses", a lo que se une "una larga historia de negocio" con España.
Asimismo, se ha referido a que el castellano es el tercer idioma en su país, por detrás del inglés y del danés, y ya se imparte en dos universidades y en los principales institutos.
El interés por la lengua española ha hecho, en palabras de la profesora, que los jóvenes islandeses, al acabar el Bachillerato, "pasen un año en España" mientras que hace sólo unos años la tónica habitual era ir a París.
