El presidente de la Reserva Federal de Nueva York, Timothy Geithner, fue seleccionado como el próximo secretario del Tesoro de EE.UU., informó hoy un asesor del presidente electo, Barack Obama.
En declaraciones a la cadena Fox, David Axelrod, un asesor de alto rango de Obama, dijo que Geithner "es alguien que ha tenido experiencia con las crisis económicas como secretario adjunto del Tesoro para Asuntos Internacionales durante los años 90".
"El está intimamente involucrado con la situación ahora en su papel como presidente de la Reserva Federal de Nueva York", señaló Axelrod.
"Por su experiencia y temperamento, él es el hombre correcto para liderar al (Departamento del) Tesoro", enfatizó Axelrod, quien acudió a los programas dominicales de la televisión estadounidense para promover la agenda económica de Obama.
Las primeras informaciones no oficiales sobre el nombramiento de Geithner motivaron a Wall Street en su jornada del viernes cuando el mercado ganó un 6,54 por ciento.
