Naciones Unidas sugirió que trespesticidas y tres químicos industriales sean ingresados en una"lista de monitoreo" comercial debido a que podrían amenazar lasalud humana y el medio ambiente, dijo el viernes laOrganización para la Alimentación y la Agricultura (FAO).
Expertos en químicos de la ONU han propuesto que lospesticidas endosulfán y azinfos metil, además del peligrosoGramoxone Super, sean añadidos al procedimiento ConsentimientoFundamentado Previo de la Convención de Rotterdam, indicó elorganismo.
La convención respaldada por la ONU impide el comercio dequímicos incluidos en el procedimiento legalmente vinculante.
No introduce prohibiciones, pero ayuda a sus miembros atomar decisiones informadas en el comercio de químicosriesgosos.
La FAO sostuvo que expertos también recomendaron que seincluyan tres químicos industriales en la lista:perfluorooctane sulfonato, y mezclas comerciales de pentaBDE yoctaBDE.
La entidad dijo que basó su recomendación en accionesregulatorias tomadas por la Unión Europea, Japón, Canadá yotros países para restringir o vetar el uso de químicos querepresentan un riesgo inaceptable para la salud y el medioambiente.
Por ejemplo, Burkina Faso propuso poner en la lista alGramoxone Super, un herbicida usado ampliamente para el controlde plagas en cultivos de algodón, arroz y maíz, después de quesu uso en el país causara problemas, dijo la FAO.
La Convención de Rotterdam tiene previsto reunirse enjunio.
