El parlamento húngaro decide hoy sobre la moción de censura constructiva presentada contra el actual primer ministro Ferenc Gyurcsány para sustituirle con Gordon Bajnai, hasta ahora ministro Economía.
Bajnai se perfiló como candidato de consenso entre los gobernantes socialistas y sus ex aliados liberales después de que Gyurcsány anunciara a finales de marzo que abandonaba el poder por la gran impopularidad de su gabinete.
El mandato de Bajnai, un economista independiente de 41 años, durará hasta la primavera de 2010 y pretende introducir severas reformas para enfrentar la severa crisis económica que sufre el país ex comunista.
Hungría recibió en octubre pasado un crédito de emergencia de 20.000 millones de euros del Fondo Monetario Internacional y de la Unión Europea para evitar un colapso de su economía, una de las más afectadas por la crisis.
La oposición conservadora aboga por elecciones anticipadas y seguramente no votará la sucesión de Gyurcsány por Bajnai, pero se espera que el candidato sea elegido con los votos de los socialista y los liberales.
Diferentes organizaciones civiles, cercanas a la oposición conservadora anunciaron para hoy manifestaciones a fin de pedir elecciones anticipadas.
Por otra parte, se prevé que Bajnai nombre los miembros de su gabinete después de la votación de hoy.
Para paliar los efectos de la crisis, el candidato ha anunciado un duro programa de austeridad, que requerirá sacrificios de todas las clases sociales.
Bajnai ha reconocido que en el paquete de medidas previsto para afrontar la crisis hay ajustes que "afectarán a todos los ciudadanos y todas las familias".
Con la sucesión de Gyurcsány por esta vía los socialistas quieren evitar las elecciones anticipadas, ya que según las encuestas cuentan con un muy escaso apoyo social.
Es la primera vez que un primer ministro húngaro puede llegar al poder mediante una moción de censura.
