Jesús García Pitarch, director deportivo del Atlético de Madrid, aseguró hoy que el holandés Rafael Van der Vaart, centrocampista del Hamburgo, es un "excelente futbolista" que "gusta" en el club rojiblanco, pero advirtió de que no ha habido ningún contacto para el fichaje del jugador para la próxima campaña.
"No ha habido ningún contacto ni tenemos un acuerdo con él. Van der Vaart es un jugador excelente y nos gusta a nosotros y a muchos equipos más. Donde elija ir va a depender de él", explicó Pitarch durante la presentación del holandés John Heitinga como nuevo jugador del conjunto rojiblanco en el estadio Vicente Calderón.
"Afortunadamente, el Atlético de Madrid ha dado un paso adelante y ahora puede pretender jugadores que hace unos años no podía pretender porque no iban a aceptar venir a un equipo que no estuviera en ninguna competición europea. El hecho de que estemos en Liga de Campeones favorece que los jugadores importantes tengan interés en jugar con nosotros", recalcó.
El Real Madrid también está interesado en Van der Vaart. "El mercado es libre y los clubes eligen a los jugadores que quieren. Es respetable la voluntad de cualquier club o jugador de elegir su destino. No hay ninguna censura ni nada criticable. Me parece bien. No veo ningún motivo para tener ninguna insatisfacción", valoró.
El Atlético presentó hoy a Heitinga, que refuerza la zaga junto al checo Tomás Ujfalusi. "La defensa se mejora no sólo por fichar mejores futbolistas, es una tarea de todo el equipo. Estos futbolistas, a priori, tienen más nivel y más experiencia que los que han salido y debería suponer que esa línea se fortalezca", dijo.
El director deportivo, que afirmó que no hay ninguna novedad en la negociación para la salida del portugués Maniche, también explicó que ha transmitido la confianza del club al medio centro brasileño Cléber Santana, que continuará durante la próxima temporada.
