La Policía china ha detenido en la región autónoma del Tíbet (suroeste) a 16 monjes budistas a los que acusa de estar implicados en tres ataques con bomba, informó hoy la agencia oficial Xinhua.
Según la información, los tres ataques se produjeron en el distrito de Mangkam de la prefectura de Qamdo, en el este del Tíbet.
Los tres casos, siempre según Xinhua, ocurrieron los días 3, 5 y 7 de abril. En uno de ellos, cuatro de los monjes supuestamente implicados lograron dañar con explosivos un transformador eléctrico en la localidad de Gartog.
Otros cinco monjes del monasterio de Wese presuntamente intentaron sin éxito atacar con explosivos "establecimientos clave del distrito", mientras que en el tercer incidente otros religiosos supuestamente planearon un atentado contra una zona residencial cuyo emplazamiento no fue revelado.
Según la policía local, los sospechosos confesaron sus crímenes y señalaron que las protestas tibetanas del 14 de marzo en Lhasa "les habían inspirado" a cometerlos.
El portavoz de turno del Ministerio de Asuntos Exteriores chino, Qin Gang, declinó hoy en rueda de prensa comentar el caso, señalando únicamente que será tratado "con arreglo a la ley".
También reiteró la responsabilidad del Dalai Lama, líder político y espiritual tibetano, en los violentos disturbios que se produjeron en Lhasa y otras ciudades del Tíbet en marzo, en los que murieron al menos 20 personas según el Gobierno chino.
El exilio tibetano afirma que más de 200 personas murieron en la represión policial tras los actos violentos.
