El capitán del Barcelona, Carles Puyol, ha aceptado una extensión de su contrato hasta 2013, dijo el viernes el campeón de Europa en su página web (www.fcbarcelona.com).
El jugador, de 31 años, cuyo actual contrato vence el próximo junio, firmará el nuevo acuerdo en los próximos días.
"Carles ha estado aquí durante muchos años y es el corazón y el alma del vestuario. Por esta razón, es una fantástica noticia", dijo su compañero de equipo Xavi en una rueda de prensa.
Puyol se unió a los juveniles del club azulgrana en 1995 y debutó en el primer equipo el 2 de octubre de 1999 contra el Real Valladolid.
El melenudo defensa ha seguido hasta hacer 451 apariciones oficiales con el Barça, la cuarta mayor marca de un jugador del club, al que ha ayudado a ganar tres títulos de Liga, dos Copas de Europa y una Copa del Rey.
El Barcelona, líder de la Liga con 19 puntos en siete partidos, visita al Real Zaragoza el domingo.
