El líder del PP, Mariano Rajoy, preside hoy la primera reunión del Comité de Dirección, máximo órgano de poder dentro del partido y formado únicamente por nueve miembros, tras la celebración el pasado fin de semana del XVI Congreso y con la novedad de la inclusión en el mismo de Alberto Ruiz-Gallardón.
Se trata de la segunda reunión que mantiene el Comité de Dirección desde las elecciones generales del pasado 9 de marzo, ya que tras esos comicios el partido únicamente mantuvo un encuentro de ese tipo el 10 de marzo, a los que se sumaron otros dos en esos meses: uno del Comité Ejecutivo y otro de la Junta Directiva.
La reunión se celebrará a las cinco de la tarde y está previsto que, en principio, comparezca en rueda de prensa la nueva secretaria general, María Dolores de Cospedal.
El nuevo Comité de Dirección, tras su fusión con "maitines", está formado por nueve miembros: Rajoy, De Cospedal, los vicesecretarios Javier Arenas, Esteban González Pons y Ana Mato, y los portavoces en el Congreso, Soraya Sáenz de Santamaría, en el Senado, Pío García Escudero, y en el Parlamento Europeo, Jaime Mayor Oreja.
Junto a todos ellos estará también el alcalde Ruiz-Gallardón, quien, aunque en la pasada legislatura formaba parte de "maitines", no estaba incluido en el Comité de Dirección.
