Son aparentemente frágiles, pero se han mantenido a lo largo de los siglos y presentan su superficie milagrosamente conservada a los ojos de quienes los contemplan tanto tiempo después: el Museo Arqueológico Provincial de Badajoz ofrece hasta el próximo 1 de noviembre la exposición temporal La fragilidad en el tiempo. El vidrio en la Antigüedad, que recoge una selección de piezas realizadas en este material desde el siglo VII a.C. hasta el VII d.C. Se trata de más de 150 objetos para todo tipo de finalidades: joyas, contenedores de ungüentos y perfumes, recipientes de cocina, jarras, amuletos y hasta, como curiosidad, fragmentos de una ventana de época romana.
La mayor parte de las piezas se han encontrado en enterramientos. Precisamente el hecho de haber formado parte de ajuares funerarios en tumbas facilitó su protección, al aislar unos materiales tan frágiles del exterior y limitar la acción de los agentes atmosféricos sobre ellos.
La exposición, producida por el Museu d´Arqueologia de Catalunya, exhibe una selección de las mejores piezas que se conservan en las sedes de esta entidad. La muestra se articula en tres bloques que abarcan diferentes momentos de la historia del vidrio en la Antigüedad, ilustrando la evolución de las técnicas de fabricación y el proceso mediante el que el objeto de vidrio dejó de ser un producto de lujo para convertirse en otro de uso cotidiano. Cualidades para ello no le faltaban: es inodoro, no altera el sabor, es reutilizable y fácilmente reciclable. Con razón desde que se descubrió hace unos cinco mil años el hombre no dejado de utilizarlo para satisfacer sus necesidades más diversas.
