El director de cine Roman Polanski, arrestado en Suiza hace tres semanas y que se enfrenta una demanda de extradición por mantener relaciones sexuales con una menor en Estados Unidos, ha salido de la cárcel para someterse a un tratamiento médico, dijo el sábado su abogado francés.
"Todo lo que sé es que fue sacado de prisión para someterse a tratamiento médico. No sé dónde está ni cuándo regresará a prisión", dijo a Reuters el abogado, Herve Temime.
Temime dijo la semana pasada después de visitar a Polanski en una cárcel de Zúrich que estaba deprimido y cansado y expresó preocupación por su estado de salud.
Polanski, de 76 años, fue arrestado el 26 de septiembre a su llegada a Suiza, donde acudió para recibir un premio a su trayectoria en un festival suizo de cine, en relación con un caso de Estados Unidos por mantener relaciones sexuales con una menor hace 30 años.
Polanski, francés y polaco, se declaró culpable de practicar sexo con una chica de 13 años en 1977 y pasó 42 días en prisión sometiéndose a pruebas psiquiátricas.
Sin embargo, huyó de Estados Unidos antes de que concluyera el caso porque creyó que un juez le condenaría hasta a 50 años de cárcel.
Las autoridades estadounidenses tienen hasta 60 días para hacer una petición formal de extradición. Fuentes judiciales estadounidenses han dicho que el complejo proceso de extradición podría llevar años.
