El presidente de Francia, Nicolas Sarkozy, ha felicitado hoy al líder del PP, Mariano Rajoy, por los resultados electorales conseguidos el pasado mes de marzo en Galicia y el País Vasco y por las perspectivas que tienen los populares en las elecciones europeas del próximo 7 de junio.
Sarkozy ha mantenido esta tarde una reunión con Rajoy en el Palacio de El Pardo en el marco de su visita de Estado a España que ha comenzado hoy.
El encuentro se ha prolongado durante una media hora y a su conclusión, Sarkozy ha presentado a Rajoy a su esposa, Carla Bruni, según han informado a EFE fuentes del PP.
El presidente francés ya tuvo el gesto de recibir a Rajoy en su anterior visita oficial a Madrid a finales de mayo de 2007, dos semanas después de su llegada al Elíseo, por la afinidad entre su partido, la UMP, y el PP.
Además de felicitar a Rajoy por los recientes resultados electorales, Sarkozy le ha manifestado el interés de Francia en "reforzar la cooperación en la lucha contra ETA" y en otros ámbitos como el crimen organizado, el narcotráfico y el tráfico de inmigrantes, según las fuentes.
También han hablado de la posibilidad de llevar a cabo iniciativas en común con vistas a los comicios europeos.
Ambos dirigentes coincidirán el próximo miércoles en Varsovia en el congreso extraordinario del Partido Popular Europeo.
Otros asuntos tratados en la reunión han sido la crisis financiera, las reformas económicas previstas por la UE en el marco de la Estrategia de Lisboa, el cambio climático y el suministro energético en Europa.
