Setenta personas se han bautizado hoy en una piscina instalada en el Palacio de los Deportes como manifestación pública de que desean ser Testigos de Jehová.
Delante de unas 10.000 personas, los nuevos discípulos se han sumergido completamente en el agua como símbolo de renacimiento, en una ceremonia "tremendamente sencilla", dirigida por un "anciano de congregación", según han explicado a EFE fuentes de la organización.
La mayoría de ellos iban ataviados con trajes de baño y eran sumergidos hacia atrás por una persona que ayudaba al bautizado a hundir la cabeza.
Al volver a salir a la superficie el bautizado ha recibido el aplauso de los asistentes.
Actos similares son parte de las 29 asambleas de distrito que los Testigos de Jehová celebran durante julio y agosto en 20 ciudades.
La de Madrid, que comenzó ayer y termina mañana, se está dedicando especialmente a los jóvenes.
Durante la jornada de hoy, se analiza el significado del bautismo en el nombre del Espíritu Santo y cómo Éste influye en el ministerio cristiano y en la vida personal de los fieles y los fortalece.
