El primer ministro de Portugal, José Sócrates, manifestó hoy su "voluntad" de que los supuestos etarras detenidos el pasado sábado en Portugal sean "devueltos a España al abrigo del pedido de extradición de las autoridades españolas".
Sócrates hizo estas declaraciones en el debate quincenal del Parlamento portugués, en respuesta a una pregunta de Paulo Portas, líder de la formación conservadora CDS-PP, respecto a la situación de los dos sospechosos.
El jefe de Gobierno portugués reconoció que éste es un asunto que sigue con "atención y cuidado" pero recordó que "las decisiones competen a las autoridades judiciales portuguesas".
"La utilización del mandato de detención europea me parece un buen instrumento para esta materia", consideró Sócrates en la Asamblea de la República de Portugal.
Los supuestos miembros de ETA Garikoitz García Arrieta y Iratxe Yáñez Ortiz de Barrón fueron detenidos el pasado sábado en el norte de Portugal tras huir de un control de la Guardia Civil en España cuando trasladaban una furgoneta con materiales para fabricar bombas.
La Audiencia Nacional española ha emitido dos mandatos de detención europea para solicitar la entrega de los dos sospechosos a las autoridades de España.
El Tribunal de Relación de Lisboa tendrá que decidir acerca de la entrega a España de García Arrieta y Yáñez Ortiz de Barrón, después del plazo de 20 días, a contar desde el pasado miércoles, que ha otorgado a su defensa para hacer las alegaciones pertinentes.
