El jefe de la diplomacia de la UE, Javier Solana, afirmó hoy que sus reuniones del sábado pasado con altos funcionarios del Gobierno iraní sobre el programa nuclear de ese país "fueron mejor de lo que esperaba".
Solana estuvo en Teherán para presentar una nueva versión de la oferta que el Grupo de los Seis (los 5 países del Consejo de Seguridad de la ONU más Alemania) ha hecho a Irán para que suspenda su programa de enriquecimiento de uranio.
"Discutimos la oferta... no voy a decir que aceptaron todo, pero ellos saben lo que tienen que hacer. Tienen que pensarlo y nos tienen que dar una respuesta. Cuanto antes mejor", añadió Solana, al llegar a un Consejo de ministros de Exteriores de la UE a los que informará sobre esta visita a Teherán.
El Alto Representante de Política Exterior y Seguridad Común de la UE insistió en que el documento que presentó a sus interlocutores iraníes "es una oferta buena y generosa", y que "al mismo tiempo les ofrecemos una vía de salida" a la situación actual, en concreto "cómo dar pasos para iniciar negociaciones".
