Un productor de televisión acusado de intentar extorsionar a David Letterman, exigiéndole dos millones de dólares, amenazó con escribir un libro sobre los amoríos del famoso presentador con empleadas suyas, según mostraron el jueves documentos judiciales.
Un juez de Connecticut ordenó el levantamiento del secreto sobre las declaraciones juradas y una lista de pruebas recogidas en la casa de Joe Halderman, un productor del programa de noticias "48 Hours" de CBS, quien está acusado de intento de hurto mayor en el caso.
Según uno de los testimonios, Halderman dijo a los abogados de Letterman en una reunión en un hotel de Manhattan que planeaba "escribir un libro y difundir la información" si no se le pagaba la suma. Halderman fue arrestado posteriormente después de que se realizara un depósito falso de dos millones de dólares en su cuenta corriente.
Fotografías, una carta, cintas de audio y vídeo, un disco duro de un ordenador y otros artículos fueron retirados de la casa de Halderman en Norwalk, Connecticut, según documentos del tribunal.
El presentador de 62 años admitió a principios de mes en su programa "Late Show with David Letterman" que mantuvo relaciones sexuales con mujeres que trabajaron para él en el espacio. Dijo a la audiencia que acudió a las autoridades tras recibir un paquete que lo amenazaba con revelar detalles.
Los fiscales dijeron que Halderman se presentó en la casa de Letterman en Manhattan el 9 de septiembre y dejó un paquete en el vehículo del comediante con un guión de una página que resumía los amoríos y una carta que exigía "un montón de dinero".
Halderman se declaró inocente de los cargos.
