El presidente iraquí, el kurdo Yalal Talabani, instó hoy nuevamente al Partido de los Trabajadores del Kurdistán (PKK), que se refugia de las autoridades turcas en el norte de Irak, a que deponga sus armas o abandone el país.
Según un comunicado de la oficina presidencial, Talabani insistió en la necesidad de que el PKK, que se levantó en armas en 1984 contra Ankara para reclamar la autonomía de los 12 millones de kurdos que viven en Turquía, tome el camino de la política.
"Esto no será considerado una rendición, sino el final de una era y el comienzo de otra", dijo el presidente iraquí.
Asimismo, en una amenaza velada, el mandatario iraquí indicó que el Ejecutivo deberá tomar medidas contra los rebeldes del PKK, si éstos no abandonan el Kurdistán iraquí voluntariamente.
"Si el Partido de los Trabajadores del Kurdistán insiste en mantener las acciones armadas, entonces tendrá que irse a Turquía, porque la Constitución iraquí no da derecho a ningún grupo armado no iraquí a permanecer en Irak", subrayó.
El pasado marzo, el PKK ya mostró su rechazó a los llamamientos lanzados entonces por Yalal Talabani para que abandonara la lucha armada.
Por otro lado, Talabani negó que hubiera una crisis entre la minoría kurda y el Gobierno de Bagdad, mayoritariamente árabe chií.
"No hay una crisis kurdo-chií porque los kurdos y los chiíes todavía son aliados, y las actuales diferencias entre el Gobierno central de Bagdad y el del Kurdistán pueden resolverse", dijo el presidente.
Estas diferencias se centran en el futuro de la rica región petrolera de Kirkuk, que los kurdos consideran propia, pero que es administrada desde Bagdad, así como en los contratos petroleros firmados por la región autónoma del Kurdistán sin la aprobación del Gobierno central.
