La galería Tate Britain dedicará a partir del 20 de abril y hasta el 4 de octubre una exposición al poeta, grabador y pintor visionario inglés William Blake, que recreará la que organizó el propio artista hace ahora doscientos años, anunciaron los organizadores.
Celebrada en mayo de 1809 en la tienda que tenía su hermano en Goldon Square, en el céntrico barrio londinense de Soho, la exposición original reunió dieciséis obras y fue un fracaso.
Sólo se publicó en la prensa una crítica, además negativa, y fueron muy pocos los visitantes para enorme decepción del artista.
Lo ocurrido con aquella exposición hizo que Blake, que tenía fama de misántropo, se encerrase aún más en si mismo y expresara su amargura sobre el mundo artístico británico (1757-1827).
La nueva exposición conmemorativa incluirá obras de la propia colección de la Tate junto a otras del Museo Británico, del Victoria & Albert, del Fitzwilliam y de la Galería de Arte de Southampton.
Según sus organizadores, en ella se pondrá de relieve el uso muy particular de la acuarela y de la pintura al temple, con la que Blake imitó a los grandes artistas del Renacimiento italiano.
Entre otras se exhibirá la acuarela "Los Soldados apuestan por la ropa de Cristo", de 1800, y "Satán convoca a sus legiones" (1795-1800).
Se incluirán asimismo otra obras de Blake relacionadas con ésas así como pinturas más convencionales de otras exposiciones celebradas también en 1809, entre ellas de JMW Turner.
La editorial de la Tate publicará también el titulado "Catálogo Descriptivo", de Blake (1809), uno de sus más lúcidos comentarios sobre sus aspiraciones artísticas, su simbolismo, y sobre el arte y el mundo artístico en general.
