La Guardia Civil podrá, a partir del 15 de mayo, inmovilizar una motocicleta si el conductor o su acompañante no llevan puesto el casco protector obligatorio. Así lo anunció ayer el director general de Tráfico, Pere Navarro, que detalló que los agentes, además de cursar la multa económica, retendrán el vehículo hasta que el motorista no se coloque el casco. "Si no lo porta, o bien va a su casa a buscarlo o bien va a comprarse uno, porque la moto va a quedar inmovilizada", sentenció ayer Navarro.
La DGT presentó ayer esta nueva campaña de concienciación y vigilancia en Dos Hermanas (Sevilla) y tendrá efecto en toda España, si bien tendrá un alcance mayor en Andalucía, Extremadura y Murcia. Estas tres comunidades autónomas son las que peores cifras ofrecen en el uso del casco obligatorio. En algunos de sus municipios sólo lo utilizan el 43 % de los motoristas, de acuerdo con los estudios realizados por el Observatorio Nacional de Seguridad Vial.
Navarro resaltó la "importancia del casco" para la prevención de lesiones cerebrales en caso de accidente, y concretó que actualmente las motocicletas alcanzan el 8% del parque móvil en España, un porcentaje que seguirá al alza. Por ello, anunció un plan de difusión de "mensajes informativos y preventivos" para el fomento del casco.
Los accidentes de moto representan un 17% del total de la siniestralidad viaria. El ciclomotor, en concreto, es el vehículo con más fallecimientos de jóvenes de entre 15 y 17 años. En 2007, murieron 880 moteros, 268 de ellos en zona urbana.
