La Unión Europea comienza hoy a analizar la petición de rescate que presentó este miércoles el primer ministro en funciones de Portugal, José Sócrates, ante la subida incontenible de los intereses de la deuda lusa y el recorte de la solvencia del Estado.
La Comisión Europea ya anunció poco después de conocer la noticia que tramitará la solicitud de asistencia financiera con la mayor brevedad posible y confió en que Portugal supere las dificultades financieras.
La Presidencia húngara de turno de la UE analizará la cuestión hoy y ofrecerá más detalles en una conferencia de prensa organizada en Budapest, previa al Consejo informal de ministros de Economía y Finanzas que se celebra el viernes y el sábado en Gödöllö, a las afueras de la capital, donde también se tratará la cuestión.
Algunos de los titulares económicos mantendrán esta noche una cena también con carácter informal en la misma localidad.
El presidente del Eurogrupo, Jean Claude Juncker, consideró que el rescate a Portugal ascendería a 75.000 millones de euros en unas declaraciones que efectuó con motivo de la celebración de una cumbre de líderes de la UE, el 24 de marzo pasado.
Portugal es el tercer país de la UE, tras Grecia e Irlanda, que solicita un rescate para poder hacer frente a las dificultades económicas.
