La compañía de impresión estadounidense Xerox obtuvo el martes la aprobación de los reguladores de la Unión Europea para su adquisición por 5.500 millones de dólares (unos 3.800 euros) de Affiliated Computer Services (ACS), para introducirse en el negocio de la terciarización.
El acuerdo, en efectivo y acciones, es la mayor adquisición de Xerox en su historia y supone el primer gran pacto alcanzado por su nueva consejera delegada, Ursula Burns.
El acuerdo no afectaría de manera significativa la competencia en Europa, dijo la Comisión Europea en un comunicado.
"En vista del diferente centro del negocio, Xerox y ACS no son los competidores más importantes entre sí en cualquiera de los mercados relevantes potenciales", dijo el ejecutivo de la Unión Europea.
Indicó que la compañía resultante continuaría afrontando a muchos competidores globales y regionales.
Xerox sigue los pasos de otros vendedores de hardware que han tratado de diversificarse. El sector de servicios tecnológicos ha atraído el interés por sus fiables beneficios.
El acuerdo de Xerox-ACS es parte de una serie de adquisiciones en la industria tecnológica, como la compra de Perot Systems por parte de Dell y el plan de Oracle de comprar Sun Microsystems.
