El tenista español Fernando Verdasco lanzó una advertencia a sus rivales antes del Abierto de Australia, al vencer el sábado al francés Jo Wilfried Tsonga por 7-5 y 6-3 en la final del torneo Kooyong Classic.
Verdasco, número nueve del mundo, rompió el saque del francés al final para llevarse un duro primer set, y luego volvió a cortar dos veces más para ponerse 4-0 al frente en el segundo bajo un sol brillante en el Club de Tenis Kooyong Lawn.
Tsonga, número 10 de la ATP, rompió a su vez y remontó hasta quedar 5-3, pero cometió varios errores y no pudo superar al español, cuyo poderoso juego desde la línea de fondo fue preciso durante todo el torneo.
Anteriormente el sábado, el adolescente australiano Bernard Tomic sorprendió al serbio número tres del mundo Novak Djokovic y le venció por 6-4, 3-6 y 7-5 en un partido de exhibición.
