El técnico del Arsenal, Arsene Wenger, describió como "atroces" las acciones de los aficionados del Birmingham City que el sábado corearon el nombre de Martin Taylor, el defensa que fracturó la pierna del delantero Eduardo, durante un partido de Premier League entre ambos equipos.
Una terrible entrada de Taylor en febrero del año pasado provocó al jugador, brasileño nacionalizado croata, una espantosa lesión que en un principio pareció haber puesto fin a su carrera.
Esta semana, algunos aficionados del Birmingham cantaron "Sólo hay un Martin Taylor..." durante una parada del juego en el estadio Emirates de Londres, después de que el delantero Theo Walcott recibiera asistencia médica por una dura falta de Liam Ridgewell.
"Eso fue francamente atroz", expresó Wenger el lunes en la página web del Arsenal (www.arsenal.com).
"Ellos (los aficionados del Birmingham) no serán recordados por su buen gusto con ese tiempo de expresiones. No dije una palabra cuando escuché la canción, sólo pensé 'Eso es bajo'", agregó.
Eduardo, que volvió a jugar en febrero después de 12 meses de recuperación, no jugó el partido del sábado ante el Birmingham, pero se encontraba en el estadio.
"No sé cómo se sintió por los cánticos. Yo solo los pongo en la clasificación de la estupidez, hay que olvidarlos y no hablar mucho de eso porque no hay mucho que decir al respecto", sostuvo Wenger.
"Con gente como esa, uno empieza a decir algo estúpido, todos los siguen, incluso la gente inteligente. Las personas pierden su identidad cuando se juntan, y (también) su sentido de la responsabilidad", añadió.
