La angustia duró 20 minutos, lo que tardó España en quitarse un corsé que aprisionaba el ataque y confundía a la defensa. En aquella bruma inicial el único faro era Iker Romero, a veces anárquico y fallón, pero que este martes se convirtió en la guía de los pasos de España con sus 14 goles.
La selección sufría para arrancar, Hombrados no localizaba los proyectiles checos y el ataque sólo encontraba aire cuando Romero sacaba el cañón o con las insuficientes puñaladas que Tomás conseguía asestar desde el extremo. Sólo a diez minutos del descanso, España, en brazos de Romero, hizo un parcial de 7-0 que tranquilizó las cosas.
En la segunda parte el partido cambió de forma. España encontró en el muro checo las ventanas por las que pudo tomar aire. Juanín García se acostumbró a ensanchar el terreno de juego, la defensa se entonó y Hombrados volvió a ser un portero de categoría. Al final España venció por 12, un resultado amplio que muestra cuál debe ser el modo de hacer las cosas en partidos que serán más exigentes, como el de este miércoles frente a Hungría (20.30 h., Teledeporte) o el del viernes ante Francia.
La incertidumbre va más allá de la espesa primera mitad de España hasta detenerse en la portería. Sterbik, serbio recientemente nacionalizado, se lesionó. El mejor guardameta del mundo sólo disputó tres minutos y no tuvo la oportunidad de realizar ninguna parada. Si el percance muscular es grave, podrá ser sustituido por otro cuando termine la primera fase.
