Tommy Robredo ha completo hoy el triplete de españoles en los cuartos de final del torneo de Bastad, al emular a Fernando Verdasco y David Ferrer y clasificarse para los cuartos de final de la prueba sueca. Robredo, tercer cabeza de serie del torneo, apenas necesitó una hora y ocho minutos de partido para dejar fuera al tenista local Jonas Bjorkman en dos sets por 6-2 y 6-3.
Las cosas no pudieron comenzar mejor para el de Hostalric, que consiguió un 'break' en el primer juego para encarrilar la primera manga y tampoco tuvo excesivos apuros para cerrar el partido en la segunda.
En cuartos de final su rival será el finlandés Jarkko Nieminen, séptimo cabeza de serie, que superó al belga Steve Darcis por 6-3 y 6-1, y al que Robredo ha ganado en cuatro de sus cinco duelos anteriores, aunque la derrota llegó en el último enfrentamiento, el año pasado.
Por su parte, David Ferrer también se clasificó para los cuartos a costa del serbio Boris Pashanski en dos sets por 7-5 y 6-1.
Ferrer, primer cabeza de la prueba, sufrió más de lo esperado para superar al 133 del mundo, sobre todo en la primera manga, donde le sorprendió con un 'break' prematuro que obligó al Jávea a ir a remolque.
Sin embargo, el español supo darle la vuelta al partido y, tras igualarlo con una rotura, logró la segunda en el duodécimo juego para evitar el 'tie-break'. En la segunda manga, Ferrer ya no concedió opciones y sentenció su clasificación con contundencia y tras 1 hora y 25 minutos de juego. En cuartos de final se medirá al sueco Robin Soderling, que derrotó en el último partido de octavos al belga Olivier Rochus por un doble 6-3.
