Si una concentración de protesta ha representado en los últimos meses un desafío a las normas establecidas esa fue la que reunió en la Puerta del Sol y otras plazas a miles de personas a partir del 15 de mayo. Llegó la jornada de reflexión y allí permanecieron, desafiando la prohibición de manifestarse durante esa jornada y la de las elecciones municipales. Por las primeras palabras de Jorge Fernández Díez como ministro del Interior no parece que eso se vaya a repetir. Las Fuerzas de Seguridad del Estado, advirtió, son las encargadas de velar por que los derechos de manifestación y reunión sean "compatibles con los derechos de los demás ciudadanos para poder vivir en una sociedad libre y democrática en la que puedas transitar por la calle con normalidad".
Fernández Díaz recuperó conceptos como el de la "paz social", que hacía tiempo no se escuchaban en la sede del Paseo de la Castellana número 5. Lo hizo porque, citando a Santa Teresa, se acercan "tiempos recios" en los que habrá que utilizar "la mano izquierda y la derecha".
Reconoce que ETA "ha sido derrotada" y dice que el combate policial seguirá igual
Al primer acto como ministro de Fernández Díaz, de fuertes convicciones religiosas, asistió el arzobispo castrense y parte de la cúpula policial en tiempos del 11-M, con el entonces ministro Ángel Acebes a la cabeza. La otra pata de la intervención del nuevo ministro fue el final de ETA. Fernández Díaz reconoció que la banda "ha sido derrotada" y se congratuló del anuncio del 20 de octubre, pero advirtió que ETA "debe dejar de existir". Hasta ese momento, los "instrumentos" antiterroristas seguirán funcionando igual, aseguró. También puso como ejemplo a las víctimas y eludió, por el momento, pronunciarse sobre los presos de ETA, aunque Instituciones Penitenciarias seguirá enmarcada en Interior.
