La familia de José Couso sigue confiando en la Justicia. Ayer la madre y los hermanos del cámara muerto en Bagdad, el 8 de abril de 2003, por el impacto de un proyectil estadounidense contra el hotel Palestina, denunciaron ante la Fiscalía Superior de Madrid "la existencia de una conspiración o concierto delictivo entre funcionarios de la Administración central del Estado y altos cargos gubernamentales y funcionarios de una potencia extranjera".
La denuncia se basa en los documentos hechos públicos por Wikileaks en los que se describen los contactos que miembros del Gobierno y de la fiscalía mantuvieron con diplomáticos de la embajada de Estados Unidos en Madrid en relación con el caso Couso, por el que tres militares estadounidenses están en busca y captura a causa de su responsabilidad en el lanzamiento del proyectil que alcanzó el hotel que albergaba a la prensa internacional que cubría la guerra de Irak.
El encargado de presentar la denuncia fue Javier Couso, hermano del cámara fallecido. Explicó a los medios de comunicación que la familia confía en que tanto el fiscal general del Estado, Cándido Conde-Pumpido, como el fiscal jefe de la Audiencia Nacional, Javier Zaragoza, se abstengan de intervenir en la investigación que proponen.
Pese a que la denuncia se ha presentado ante la propia fiscalía, que es un cuerpo jerarquizado, Couso justificó la iniciativa en que "debe haber fiscales que también se sientan insultados por el quebrantamiento del estatuto de la fiscalía" que, a su juicio, se ha producido en el procedimiento en el que se investiga la muerte de su hermano.
La denuncia enumera los cables, según los reprodujo El País, y concluye que los fiscales y los altos cargos gubernamentales citados "podrían haber actuado conforme a lo indicado por funcionarios" de Estados Unidos, "causando así perjuicio a ciudadanos españoles y a poderes constitucionales del Estado, y todo ello en claro detrimento de la soberanía nacional española y la independencia de nuestros poderes públicos".
La fiscalía, por su parte, insistió en que nunca varió su criterio en este caso.
