Kanayo F. Nwanze tiene muchas cifras en la cabeza, pero hay una que se ha convertido en el motor de su trabajo como presidente del Fondo Internacional de Desarrollo Agrícola (FIDA): en 2050, los agricultores de todo el mundo deberán alimentar a 9.000 millones de personas. Para lograr este objetivo, cuando el aumento del precio de los alimentos está en su punto álgido, Nwanze propone un "cambio de modelo en la agricultura rural". España ha aportado 300 millones de euros al FIDA para alcanzar este reto.
¿En qué se invertirá el dinero que ha prestado España al FIDA?
Este año, la inversión española se destinará a reducir la pobreza y a crear oportunidades para que los agricultores tengan beneficios propios en 26 países, como Botsuana, Madagascar o República Dominicana. España es el primer país de la Unión Europea en dar un préstamo reembolsable con intereses al FIDA. Esta aportación doblará nuestra capacidad de ayuda y llegaremos a 60 millones de agricultores.
¿Cómo se pueden dinamizar estas zonas?
Únicamente cambiando el modelo de la agricultura rural. No hace falta ayudarlos a producir más, sino a organizarse para que inviertan en su propio futuro. Para reducir la pobreza, los pequeños agricultores tienen que ser competitivos en el mercado local para evitar las migraciones.

¿La ayuda directa ya no sirve para combatir el aumento del precio de los alimentos?
La ayuda asistencial es útil para las emergencias, pero esta crisis puede que no sea temporal, por lo que hay que construir un nuevo marco de acción.

Ellos son el futuro del campo y la esperanza de las poblaciones rurales. El capital humano es la clave para lograr una agricultura fuerte y que la gente no abandone las comunidades.
