La ministra de Sanidad, Política Social e Igualdad, Leire Pajín, anunció ayer la presentación por parte del Gobierno en los próximos meses de una nueva Ley de Protección de la Infancia, que buscará fomentar el acogimiento familiar "como medida prioritaria" para proteger a los niños en situación de desamparo, tratando de evitar en la medida de lo posible su ingreso en instituciones.
"La experiencia de una vida familiar positiva tiene que constituir una nueva oportunidad para los niños que por circunstancias familiares graves tienen que ser separados de sus familias de origen", afirmó la titular de Sanidad, que participó en un desayuno informativo del Foro de la Nueva Economía.
Pajín explicó que la reforma del Gobierno "buscará promover el acogimiento familiar como medida prioritaria, y en su caso la adopción, quedando la atención residencial como medida subsidiaria y último recurso para los casos que lo requieran". En su opinión, "el interés superior de la infancia exige garantizar un proyecto definitivo y estable para los niños y niñas en situación de desamparo".
Tras el anuncio, la ONG Save the Children exigió que el Gobierno acompañe estas medidas de protección con la creación de un "marco jurídico integral con el que abordar la protección de todos los niños y niñas que se encuentran en España".
Entre las medidas que la ONG considera necesario abordar, están las encaminadas a la prevención y protección de los niños contra todo tipo de violencia, "incluidos el maltrato, el abuso y también la explotación sexual".
